646f9e108c Assisted by a squad of Spartans, the UNSC forces fight to defend the colony world of Harvest from the Covenant, and push them off of the planet. Halo Wars is a top down strategy game similar to Age of Empires in its gameplay. It's story is about a ship called the Spirit of Fire that is protecting one of the outer colonies when they follow a covenant ship that attacks the colony to a unknown planet, with a mysterious past. The story follows the characters Captian Cutter, the commander of the ship, professor Anders, the brainiac scientist, and sgt. forge, the sarcastic leader of the marine ground forces. In the game each character is a playable character in a leadership type roll. Each character has their own abilities and special units they can research and use. For example, sgt. Forge can make "Grizzleys" or super tanks. The campaign that takes about 20-30 years before the events on Reach is fun and has good replay value, you can collect skulls for use in "skirmish" local matches. The multiplayer is arguably what makes this game the most interesting. Besides Cutter, Forge, and Anders you can playthree covenant leaders. These characters are a little more obscure in their roles in the plot but are justfun to play as. Unlike the human characters they are actually on the ground and can be controlled. They are the Prophet, the Arbiter and a brute chieftain. Like the humans they have their own abilities two. What makes this fun is how evenly distributed the power is between each of the 6 playable leaders. Each one with their own perks and their own down falls. In skirmish matches any of the leaders can be pitted against eachother to the point where you could have 3 professor Anders vs 3 professor Anders. This allows the player to find new combinations in strategy, new tactics and better gameplay. Although this game may have not directly tied to any of the other previous games made by Bungie, the story leaves no loopholes or incongruity to the main halo lore and story. All in all this game is extremely fun for those who like command strategy games and also love the Halo series. Just bought this game and I'm sold on it's beautiful qualities.

Having just played the demo and then purchased the full game I got to say that the game simply rocks for so many reasons. I'm not a huge fan of RTS (Real Time Strategy) games. I'm the kind of guy who mostly plays FPS, racing, and 3D action games but Halo Wars changed my mind upon first viewing. First off the interface is clean, the controls are responsive and it's VERY easy to place units on the map, building resources, and commanding armies. The tutorial does an excellent job of teaching you the ends and outs of strategic mobilization of ground and air troops( though I only got to command ground forces). Even more, it even reminds you if you forget how to place units and build and train armies, very nice. Like it's FPS cousins, the graphics and sound effects are top-notch and with tight control and a story that delves even deeper into the conflict between the good and bad guys in the franchise with beautiful cinematic cut-scenes coupled with superb voice acting and well-written dialog is pure bliss that the Halo series is known for. And with online and co-op play with the possibility of content downloads via Xbox Live, is already sweet frosting to an already delicious cake. That's not all, it's also a turning point in the series: The first Halo game NOT releaseda FPS.

With the series' already stellar reputation and rabid fan base, In all aspects, fans of the series are positively sure that in the hands of Ensemble Studios, the finished product is nothing short of amazing and with the release of Halo 3: ODST coming out later this year, Halo fans and FPS aficionados will DEFINITELY have a lot to look forward to this year in what is already a celebrated franchise that'sculturally relevant and reveredStar Wars; the original trilogy, of course.

Halo Wars. Coming Soon in Spring of '09. You know, I'd always thought Halo games are waaay too overrated. That was until I played them. Sure, Halo 3, for example, doesn't look great, but it's just awesome to play and it has this truly EPIC story. I loved it - and then I bought Halo Wars… just to be impressed like never before.

I don't like RTS games. I enjoyed only the first C&C, but the rest wasn't for me - too long, too hard, too boring. But HW is nothing like them - it pure FUN. This game is full of great ideas and there's no two missions that feel the same. There's always something that makes them unique and original - like the avoidance of the death ray, switching off the force barriers and other stuff not seen in other strategy games.

The game is demanding but not frustrating, it plays quick but is not too short. Graphically - it's just amazing. And it's really comfortable to play with a joypad! There's only one vice…

It's the plot. Sure, it's epic, but the writing, the characters, the dialogue - it's just not the same leagueHalo 3. Well, at least the movies are beautiful and well directed.

Halo Wars is simply THE BEST RTS GAME I've ever played (and I've played a lot). I absolutely love it. 10 out of 10.
